I am the proud co-owner of Breathe Denver. I am blessed to fulfill my dream of creating a welcoming, engaging, diverse, environment for people to practice yoga, express themselves creatively, and step onto the path of self-discovery and transformation. The students who frequent Studio Shakta have become my extended family.
What should your students expect in your yoga class?
Students can expect to be led on a vibrant journey of breath, flow, alignment and sensation. Classes focus on the integration of movement, mindfulness and strength. Shelley encourages her students to step into their power of connection, creativity and authenticity. Prepare to meet your edge and to grow into deeper relationship with your practice, your heart, and your community.
Who have you studied with?
I received my first training in California, and was mentored by Anirudh Shastrij. After my first 200-hr certification, I needed more. I took Dharma Mittra’s 200-hour Life of a Yogi training, which is the foundation from which I teach. I continue to study with many different teachers because I find each teacher has some unique nugget that inspires me.
What inspires you?
My greatest inspiration are my children. Every day they challenge me to be more patient, to think of creative solutions, and to answer really tough questions. I am constantly amazed at the intuitive intelligence of a child’s heart and mind.
What is something unique about you?
When I first started to practice yoga, I could not touch my toes. Years of running, soccer, and contraction, left me inflexible. My approach to yoga was to push through (well at first), then I learned that I need to soften and send energy to those areas in my physical and emotional body that needed to heal. After I realized that, I could touch my toes.
Why do you teach yoga?
Connection. I love the connection I feel in my relationships with my students. Yoga created a path of healing and transformation for me, and I love sharing it with those of who have the tiniest bit of curiosity.
What is your favorite pose?
My favorite pose is head stand because it gave me courage to step through my fear, feel the world upside down, and develop a deep sense of empowerment and confidence.
